SWEDE RISBERG: "I am entirely innocent and the jury has proven that. I leave my future in organized baseball in the hands of the officials."

BUCK WEAVER: "Everybody knew I had nothing to do with the so-called conspiracy. I believe that I should be given my old position back. I knew I'd be cleared and I'm glad the public stood by me until the trial was over."

LEFTY WILLIAMS: "I knew what the verdict would be because I was innocent. How could the verdict been anything else?"

On August 3,1921, one day after the trial had ended, Commissioner Landis issued the following statement:

"Regardless of the verdicts of juries, no player who entertains proposals or promises to throw a game, no player who sits in conference with a bunch of crooked players and gamblers where the ways and means of throwing games are discussed and does not promptly tell the club about it will ever play professional baseball. Of course, I don't know that any of these men will apply for reinstatement, but if they do, the above are at least a few of the rules that will be enforced."

This announcement officially ended the playing careers of all eight Chicago White Sox players.
